Take a waddle with us down side streets doused in drunken history. Have a pint leaning up against a roman wall. Sip mother’s ruin in a gin palace with your mom (that’s a gin and tonic btw). Walk cobbled streets to an espresso martini from London’s oldest coffee house (1652!). Book now to waddle with us through pubs and pints.
We will visit one of the most haunted pubs in the City of London. Learn about its gin soaked history, and some of the ghosts that still haunt it.
We will then visit an underground cocktail bar, which was the site the very first royal alcohol license was granted in Britain. It lies beneath the Royal Exchange, built in 1571. The area was known for its bustling trade and vibrant social scene, attracting merchants, heralds, and rogues alike. The East India Company used this basement as a warehouse at one point!
Next, we’ll head to a historic pub that stands on the site of London’s first-ever coffee house, which opened in 1652. Known as “The Jampot” by locals, it now serves classic ales and pub fare in a cozy, wood-paneled setting, preserving its rich history while offering a traditional British pub experience.
Lastly, we’ll hit up a pub whose building’s foundations partly rest on the north sleeper wall of a Roman basilica that dates back approximately 2,000 years.
Tour takes place every Monday at 1:30 PM.
Meet outside Caffe Nero, 118/119 Newgate St, London EC1A 7AE.
Visit about 30 landmarks, hear myths debunked, visit a pub, ride the tube, and have lunch in an open air market. Tour takes place 10 AM any weekday.
We founded Londunnit on the premise that history can and should be fun and engaging. Stories of royal feuds, fortunes won and lost, global influence, and bootstrapped innovations should tell a lot more like a reality show than college lecture.
